The primary philosophy of our architectural firm is to work in close collaboration with our clients to effectively meet the programmatic requirements of the users, and to arrive at a solution that neither we nor the client could have envisioned before we started.

We have made it our objective to equip ourselves to the greatest extent possible and to employ individuals with the highest standard of excellence in their respective fields. This objective is realized as we develop our professional skills through ongoing training and seminars as well as personal research and study. We are continually upgrading our computer hardware and software programming to stay on the leading edge of technology.

Testimonials

"I had the good pleasure to visit Eaux Claire Extendicare in Edmonton on Friday.   We are looking at different options for my mother-in-law; so we booked an hour tour of Eaux Claire.

I am not sure how one is supposed to praise an architect.  It’s like telling a master chef that his meal was very good – why wouldn’t it be?  For some reason, though, the creator and the product don’t always rise to expectations.  However, just from meeting you, I knew I could expect nothing but interesting and appealing work.  You didn’t let me down.

My first impression – impressive use of light and space.   We would never have clued in that we were entering an assisted living complex, without knowing it ahead of time.  The relaxed and inviting feel of that Main Street space is so enjoyable – and what we noticed first and foremost was that residents were using that corridor.  I can imagine it is even busier in the months when they can access outside spaces.

The way in which the neighbourhood concept is developed is clever.  I took note that the “magic” number for their staff and resident ratio is 15.  It seems as if that grouping of 15 still creates a community dynamic.  Some grouping according to resident needs is evident, but is not strictly adhered to.

I am a stickler for how a room is designed.  In spite of all the common space in a facility, the room is still the heart and soul of a person’s life.  I have been in so many places where a room is just square footage with little thought about light, finishes, arrangement.  You obviously think about those places where a person spends the vast majority of time.  The full height windows are so important for people who often lie down during the day.   You put a lot of thought into the bathroom space.  I have been in some buildings where the bathroom is almost as big as the rest of the room.  You have found the right balance in that area.

My wife was really taken by the finishes throughout the building.  The vinyl flooring is really attractive and adds to the light-filled atmosphere.   Electric lighting gave a natural look.  Somehow, in spite of all the hard floor surfaces, and most doors to individual rooms being left open, you were able to keep noise transfer into residents’ rooms to a minimum.

Finally, it is great that you designed a place where the staff has to work primarily in the sight of the residents.  Nursing stations are built into the hallways.  Yet, our tour guide emphasized that staff have efficient access to adjoining neighbourhoods through the use of connecting staff portals.  The dining space is prominent and not tucked away in a corner.  It was clear that the staff members are content.

So, thank you, Alvin, for creating something that is a joy to be in.    I know those residents are blessed to live their lives in such a special environment.  I look forward to seeing how your ideas can benefit the people in the Valleyview area.  Blessings to you."

"Not only has everything been handled in a professional and timely fashion but also your flexibility has been appreciated. The way that you have presented us at town-hall meetings, planning meetings, Development Permit meetings, City Council meetings, Building Permit meetings, and numerous meetings with different inspectors has always been so very beneficial. Your entire team has been just what we needed.”
