Goodstoney Meadows

A natural gathering place for the Stoney Nakoda people since time immemorial, Goodstoney Meadows was a traditional spring meeting place for Stoney families and clans returning from winter camp. Here they enjoyed meeting again after the long cold, winter months, coming together as a community to feast, tell stories and celebrate the arrival of spring and the warm Chinook winds. The proposed project consists of two commercial buildings. One, a semi-circular strip mall that is designed around a central courtyard and food court. The other, a combined convenience store and drive-thru take-out café with an adjacent 6 pump gas canopy. The objective of the proposed design is to engage travelers at this critical junction between Kananaskis, Canmore, and Calgary. The strip mall is targeting fast-food restaurants as well as retail and has a public washroom that is accessible from the central courtyard. The strip mall also has a rear service lane for loading. The convenience store has an upstairs office area, a staff room, and an open balcony meeting area overlooking the retail space below.
