ARFAi designed the original Lethbridge Christian School building in collaboration with Douglas Bergen and associates several decades ago. The design was based on the PARTI and the philosophical approach established at the Jennie Emery Elementary school in Coaldale, Alberta. The overall layout with a corridor surrounding the gymnasium, establish a framework which could readily be expanded.
When The Lethbridge Christian School was originally constructed, the north wall of the gymnasium was constructed in wood frame. When in 2021 after over a decade of occupancy, it was determined to enlarge the school, it was a simple matter to remove the north wall and extend the east and west walls of the gymnasium in masonry. This resulted in an unprecedented economical solution, which was realized through exceptional preplanning at the onset of the project.
Even the spatial layout of the classroom environment, while it was refined, was as per the original
conceptualization.
The final result was an educational facility that was extremely cost-effectively performed and provides dramatically more value than most of the schools in the region.
